The Carnival of Money Stories

September 9, 2008

Welcome to our first blog carnival here at The Copyeditor’s Desk: the Seventy-Sixth Carnival of Money Stories!

Since we’re editors and lovers of the written word, we’ve chosen a literary theme for this week’s carnival. Our Editor’s Picks qualify for Masterpiece Theatre. The other excellent stories, which we much enjoyed reading, are grouped by topics or genres. All stories are listed in the order in which they came in.

We received quite a few interesting posts that we regretted not being able to include, because they were not actually stories. Remember that the carnival is seeking stories, not lists of tips, reports, how-to pieces, and the like.

A story has a plot. Something happens in the story, and that something is told in a narrative line with a beginning, a middle, and an end. A story doesn’t have to be fictional to be presented in a narrative way with a plotline. Any good anecdote, even one that’s just a paragraph long, contains a plot: it presents an action under way, moves toward a climax, and drops off in a dénouement. All of this week’s authors use story in one way or another to get their point across.
